Energy Enhancement Meditation, Energy Blockages and Vipassana

Friday, October 31st, 2008

In Vipassana we are keeping the Energy Blockage or negativity in the unconscious will not eradicate it; and allowing it to manifest in physical or vocal action will only create more problems. But if one just observes the blockage and heal it, then the defilement passes away, and one has eradicated that negativity, one is freed from the defilement. A good solution: it avoids both extremes–suppression and free license.

This sounds wonderful, but is it really practical? For an average person, is it easy to face the Energy Blockage? When anger arises, it overpowers us so quickly that we don’t even notice. Then overpowered by anger, we commit certain actions physically or vocally which are harmful to us and to others.

Later, when the anger has passed, we start crying and repenting, begging pardon from this or that person or from God: ‘Oh, I made a mistake, please excuse me!’ But the next time we are in a similar situation, we again react in the same way. All that repenting does not help at all.

The difficulty is that I am not aware when a defilement Energy Blockage starts. It begins deep in the unconscious level of the mind, and by the time it reaches the conscious level, it has gained so much strength that it overwhelms me, and I cannot observe it.

Then I must keep a private secretary with me, so that whenever anger starts, he says, ‘Look master, anger is starting!’ Since I cannot know when this anger will start, I must have three private secretaries for three shifts, around the clock!

Suppose I can afford that, and the anger starts to arise. At once my secretary tells me, ‘Oh, master, look–anger has started!’ The first thing I will do is slap and abuse him: ‘You fool! Do you think you are paid to teach me?’ I am so overpowered by anger that no good advise will help.

Even supposing wisdom prevails and I do not slap him. Instead I say, ‘Thank you very much. Now I must sit down and observe my anger.’ Yet it is possible? As soon as I close my eyes and try to observe the anger, immediately the object of anger come into my mind–the person or incident because of which I become angry.

In Vipassana I am not observing the anger itself. I am merely observing the external stimulus of the emotion. This will only serve to multiply the anger; this is no solution. It is very difficult to observe any abstract negativity, abstract emotion, divorced from the external object which aroused it.

However, in Vipassana, one who reached the ultimate truth found a real solution. He discovered that whenever any Energy Blockage arises in the mind, simultaneously two things start happening at the physical level. One is that the breath loses its normal rhythm. We start breathing hard whenever a negativity comes into the mind. This is easy to observe. At subtler level, some kind of biochemical reaction starts within the body–some sensation. Every defilement will generate one sensation or another inside, in one part of the body or another.

This is a practical solution. An ordinary person cannot observe abstract defilements of the mind–abstract fear, anger, or passion. But with proper training and practice, it is very easy to observe respiration and bodily sensations–both of which are directly related to the mental defilements.

Respiration and sensation will help me in two ways. Firstly, they will be like my private secretaries. As soon as a defilement starts in my mind, my breath will lose its normality; it will start shouting, ‘Look, something has gone wrong!’ I cannot slap my breath; I have to accept the warning. Similarly the sensations tell me that something has gone wrong. Then having been warned, I start observing my respiration, my sensation, and I find very quickly that the defilement passes away.

This mental-physical phenomenon is like a coin with two sides. On the one side are whatever thoughts or emotions are arising in the mind. One the other side are the respiration and sensations in the body. Any thought or emotion, any mental defilement, manifests itself in the breath and the sensation of that moment. Thus, by observing the respiration or the sensation, I am in fact observing the mental defilement.

Things keep on occurring that are contrary to our desires and wishes. So the question arises, how am I not to react blindly in the face of these things which I don’t like? How not to create tension? How to remain peaceful and harmonious?

In India as well as in other countries, wise saintly persons of the past studied this problem–the problem of human suffering–and found a solution: if something unwanted happens and one starts to react by generating anger, fear or any negativity, then as soon as possible one should divert one’s attention to something else.

For example, get up, take a glass of water, start drinking–your anger will not multiply and you’ll be coming out of anger. Or start counting: one, two, three, four. Or start repeating a word, or a phrase, or some mantra, perhaps the name of a deity or saintly person in whom you have devotion; the mind is diverted, and to some extent, you’ll be out of the negativity, out of anger.

This solution was helpful: it worked. It still works. Practicing this, the mind feels free from agitation. In fact, however, the solution works only at the conscious level. Actually, by diverting the attention, one pushes the negative Energy Blockage deep into the unconscious, and on this level one continues to generate and multiply the same defilements. At the surface level there is a layer of peace and harmony, but in the depths of the mind there is a sleeping volcano of suppressed negativity which sooner or later will explode in violent eruption.

Other explorers of inner truth went still further in their search; and by experiencing the reality of mind and matter within themselves they recognized that diverting the attention is only running away from the problem.

In Vipassana, escape is no solution: one must face the problem. Whenever a negativity arises in the mind, just observe it, face it. As soon as one starts observing any mental defilement, it begins to lose strength. Slowly it withers away and is uprooted.

This Vipassana works with all weak Energy Blockages, however for very deep and powerful Energy Blockages one must meditate with a Master of Meditation, within his Buddhafield. Let the Master do the work!.

Or one must learn very powerful blockage busting techniques like Energy Enhancement. Then, like Alexander the Great, you can learn how to cut the Gordian Knot with your sword of Discernment!

Usually, the necessary solution is a mixture of both being with a Master of Meditation, and learning advanced Blockage Busting techniques yourself. This we do in Energy Enhancement!

How To Get Things Done

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

This is how to get things done: one step at a time.

Whether you’re launching a global initiative, getting your finances in order, or potty training your child, one step at a time is the ticket to completion. Keep your focus on the step you’re ON, and take that step. Resist your inclination to get discouraged or confused.

Last summer I learned how to cycle long distances and up hills in preparation for a charity ride. At first I got overwhelmed and panicky at the big hills, but I learned, gradually, to keep my mind and attention on my pedaling. Can I handle this pedal stroke? Yes. Can I handle this one? No problem. Each minute was do-able, and soon (or eventually) I was at the crest of the hill.

The individual steps are usually completely within our capability. And that’s actually where progress is made.

Yes, the overall task needs to be within your range. If you’re not an astrophysicist, you’re unlikely to make progress in figuring out what’s up with quasars. But chances are, the challenges you have on your plate right now ARE within your range of capability.

COACHING TIPS

For each major project on your plate, answer these questions for yourself:

1. What, exactly, is the goal here?

2. How will I know when I’ve reached it?

3. Is this goal within my range, even though it may be a stretch? (Or am I tackling quasars?)

4. Do I have at least a rough game plan?

5. Do I know what my next step is?

6. Am I taking it?

DON’T ALLOW YOURSELF THE LUXURY OF GETTING PARALYZED! If you can’t answer these questions, get some help! Talk to a colleague, partner, or friend. Or contact me. I have helped many highly effective people get back into action.

If you’re considering hiring a coach to help you with challenges like these, contact me at sharon@stcoach.com for an initial consultation at no charge.

How to Find Balance In Your Work At Home Career And Your Personal Life

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Work at home moms face challenges that are very unique. The decision to work outside the home or stay with your children is difficult, with each option having advantages and disadvantages. If you stay home you may lose income and you will lose interaction with fellow employees, and if you work outside the home you live with separation from your children and pay caregiver expenses. Many women are choosing to work at home and finding the right opportunity is the first step in finding success as a work at home mom.

You could use the knowledge and skills you have and become a consultant, develop a career in design or writing, telecommute to a job, or start a home-based business. The opportunities are endless.

It can be difficult for a work at home mom to balance home, family, and career. Even if you are not a parent it is hard to find time for a personal life when you operate a home-based business. It is very easy to become consumed by your work when you work from home and it can be a challenge to find time for yourself and your family.

To successfully balance a home and career you must create a work schedule. Decide what hours will be set aside for work and try hard to stick to that time-frame. It very beneficial to create a boundary between work and home. Setting a work schedule will give you a routine to follow.

To give yourself the opportunity to socialize and meet new people, try geting involved with community or other volunteer activities. If you do not get out of the house regularly you may begin to resent your work and your family obligations.

During your workday, take short breaks to get up and move around. A simple stretching routine or a short walk will do wonders for your outlook. It will be necessary for you to deliberately schedule time for personal activities such as reading, picnics, or exercise. By adding these activities and free time to your schedule you will ensure that you get some much needed “mommy” time and that your family spends quality time together. You will find that if your leisure and family time suffer too much, your relationships will suffer as well. Make time for the fun things and times shared with children and family.

If you implement these ideas into your life as a work at home mom, you will be better able to achieve balance between work and your home life.

Cultivate The Habit

Monday, October 27th, 2008

“Gratitude is an adrenalin to a tired body.”

When the movie ” Passion of the Christ” by Mel Gibson hit the theater, we all saw the movie and most of us cried. However some (Me, personally) did have heavy hearts for days knowing Christ suffered a lot for our sake. Of course those who are fortunate rang Mel’s number and simply said, ” Thanks for your genius.” For people like me who could not reach him for one reason or the other, we did appreciate his brilliant effort by seeing the movie as many times as possible.

When I saw the movie for the seventh time in the comfort of my cozy living room, I realized Mel would have failed woefully lest for those people who had faded into the background of the movie like black dress atop a red pair of shoes. You know what I mean? The dress is attractive, but the shoes had taken the whole attention to itself.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying Mel doesn’t deserve hundreds of backslaps, but I’m talking about other people who never got a single call from their friends or a thank you from the public.

Actually, I’m not talking about the man who played Christ, Jim Caviezel or the guy who played the tempter, Satan. (I don’t know his name.) I’m talking about someone in the crowd. I’m concerned about that woman who got a copy of the film, invited her friends to her home and slow play the movie (Passion of the Christ) for them to see her. Despite she played it many times, she still have to zoom it before they could capture her properly in the rush crowd. All her friends went up screaming, ” Oh Jenny, you are in the movie. Congratulations, you did well.” That is if she is as pronounced as the man who played Simon the Cyrenian.

I’m not saying you slow play a movie to get the list of people you have to congratulate. No, I’m not saying that, but you have to feel like saying, “Job well done ” to the production crew. What about the costumier? Or that fat lady (don’t know if she is fat.) who was nowhere in the movie, (On scene or behind the scene) but did make sure Mel and his crew get lunch and coffee during the rehearsals and final shot of the timeless piece?

Of course I do not expect you to ring Mel asking for the list of everyone involved in the making of the movie. But I’m just concerned about the last time you said thank you to the doorman who held the door or found a taxi for you. What about the young lady who packed your grocery in the store?

What about that florist? The cabbie? The receptionist? The bellboy who took your luggage to your hotel room? The Spanish woman who cleans your house every weekend? What about the hotel maid who run other extraneous errands to get your cream Armani suit from the hotel shop outside making sure your rooms are perfectly cleaned? What about the caddie at the golf course? What about the high school blonde who baby-sits your kids while you dine, late night, in a ritzy restaurant?

Did you say you did pay and sometimes tip them for their services? That is very right, but sometimes your cash does little compare to the thank you that really shows how much you appreciate their efforts.

Cultivating the habit of expressing gratitude for a service (even if you pay for it) it makes someone feel appreciated and much more valued. Imagine Mr. George Bush walks into a small coffee shop downtown, demands to see the person who mopped the floor and he

If you are the person, how would you feel?

The Recent Terrific World of Liquid Crystal Display Televisions

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

With the degree of development arising in telly equipment today it is definitely worthwhile to be familiar with a number of the most significant improvements. This information to liquid crystal display televisions (LCD) considers the specific benefits of this technology. This insight provides you all the vital facts on how to find the finest image and gives an explanation on a little of the critical attributes to remember with Liquid Crystal Display tellies.

There are currently 2 key benefits with Liquid Crystal Display TVs over Plasma televisions. The 1st is that LCD may perhaps be drastically easier to look at when compared against a traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) TV set. This is usually because screen displays are drastically brighter with a high contrast level and flicker free picture. LCD tellies by and large work correctly in roughly any manner of room from bright to ambient. Next, LCDs normally have a higher native resolution than plasma televisions of a comparable dimension therefore making them great for hi-def output. Even though plasma tellies are currently superior for total display size, as more and more TV channels come in hi-definition TV (HDTV), Liquid Crystal Display equipment will for certain come to the front.

How Do LCD Tellies In Reality Work?

LCD products are comparatively complicated & growing each & every day. This technology is based upon the fact that liquid crystals are, in their usual condition, twisted. The capability of the crystals to allow light through can be modified by submitting electric voltage. Very basically put, a light source is sent through a liquid that contains crystals held amid 2 polarised displays. By allowing the right measure of light to go through, the needed image is created. The personal confidence trick

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

If there are times when your confidence deserts you, this simple trick or technique could make all the difference.

Before I tell you how to do it let me give you the opportunity to quickly prove it will work for you first. Sit as you would if you were on your own and feeling really fed up. Yes that’s right, imagine you are fed up now, and sit or stand as you would if your were fed up now. Maintain that position for 15 to 20 seconds. No more! OK, now sit or stand as you do when you are with people you like and are feeling really happy. You can choose how happy you want to imagine you are right now but move into the position you associate with feeling that happy and hold it for 15 seconds, or for as long as you now want to feel happy now. So what have you noticed? Have you noticed that you adopted different positions and that you did it without having to think about it very much, if at all?

Did you also notice that as you assumed each of the positions you also began to feel a bit fed up, or happy to some degree? Yes? The simple explanation for this is that over time, as you have experienced different emotions and moods, your body has taken on different shapes that you now unconsciously and habitually associate with them. The interesting and useful consequence is that when you adopt the position you associate with a particular mood you also begin to ‘feel as if’ you are in that mood too. It’s all to do with the way we are wired up which there isn’t time to go into more in this article.

So to feel confident when you need to but don’t, you simply have to adopt the position you do when you feel naturally confident. So how are you going to do that?

Remember times in the past when you have felt supremely confident. Choose one of those times that you can recall and relive in some detail now. See yourself back there then and remember where you are and what is going on around you.

- Recall what you see. – Hear the sounds around you. – Perhaps you even now remember the smells. – As you do this recall how you were standing or sitting and now begin to take on that shape and experiment with how that feels. – Notice the muscle tension you associate with feeling this way, perhaps in your face, your neck, shoulders, chest, abdomen and legs. – Recall how you are breathing. Where in your diaphragm, high up in your chest or deeper in the belly? Fast and tense or slow and relaxed? Experiment, and as you do notice what your body naturally does when you do ‘feeling confident’ now?

And, in the days ahead when you naturally feel confident notice again what it is you do and keep stacking these experiences so you become more consciously aware of what you do unconsciously when you are feeling that way. You will probably notice one or two of the movements and sensations are particularly effective in helping you feel more confident naturally. Make a particular note of these and reproduce them first because when you do you will discover they have a domino effect and trigger of all sorts of other changes in you naturally that are all very helpful. My clients typically notice relaxing their shoulders and breathing more deeply is particularly effective. You may find it is something else however. Now when you feel less confident than you want to, arrange your body in the ways you have discovered you associate with feeling more confident and enjoy the results.

The extra bonus: When you act as if you are confident you will not only feel it you will appear it to the world around you and you are likely to find this magnifies how you feel in yourself. Wishing you an outstandingly successful life. © Alistair Nee Executive and personal development coach

Discover Your Path to Success – Part 1

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Success can easily be compared to the “genie trapped in a bottle.” For many of us, it is a matter of finding a way to open the bottle, and then, follow a specific path. This path is filled with pitfalls, and traps, along the way, so it is wise to expand your vision by learning as you go.

To many people, success is a “fairytale” and as elusive as a Yeti. In reality, success is just around the corner, and sometimes already exists, as hidden treasure. I am not talking about sunken ships or Indiana Jones. What I am referring to are skills you already possess, friends and family who will help you, and accomplishments that you already have made.

When you put these hidden treasures, together, with your end goal in mind, you are on your way toward success. Now let’s look at a way to move forward every day, live a quality life, and help everyone around you, in the process.

Write all of your goals down, and keep them in a place that you will see. This could be on a piece of paper in your pocket, on your desk top, in a notebook, in your diary, or on your palm pilot. Wherever you put this information, it should be a place where you will see it, every day.

Separate realistic from lofty goals, but don’t throw lofty goals out. Also, separate short-term goals, from long-term goals, and design estimated time frames, for measured results. You don’t have to share this with anyone, unless they share the same goal. If you have, at least, one close friend, spouse, or family, who shares the same dream, you are in a very strong position.

However, you don’t need to be a “politician” to be successful, if you learn to focus on your goals, every day. Now we have to go over a few questions that will also help you design your road map toward success.

Will your goals hurt anyone? Will you have to step on anyone to get what you want?

If you answered yes to either one of the above questions, you should redefine your goal or goals, so you can achieve it or them without harming anyone in the process. If that is not possible, throw that goal out, and move on. Your goals should help people and be morally sound.

Do you have a real passion for your goals?

This one is also important because, if your goal is “flipping burgers” for money, it won’t be long, before that gets old. I have yet to meet the person, who has a real passion for flipping burgers. Please don’t get me wrong, some people are very good at it, but I have known many short order cooks, who wish they were doing something else besides “slaving” over a hot stove.

What you choose, must be something you love doing, and the money will follow. There are so many people, who craft an occupation, based upon money alone, and learn to regret it. If you have a purpose in life you have “self-worth.” Self-worth is a very valuable hidden treasure.

Motivation By A Challenge

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Many humans are motivated by the thought of doing something they or others think they cannot do. They don’t want to do what they already know they can do. They are also motivated, as one commentator on this article wisely mentioned, by success. Succeed and then the motivation will arrive in bucket loads.

When I studied Taekwondo, most of the best students were slim, flexible and young. I was thickset and definitely not flexible! I was also over forty! The instructor asked me with some curiosity why I had decided to do something which did not really suit my physical makeup.

I replied that there was no point in doing something I was already good at or likely to be good at. I wanted a challenge. This answer seemed to make sense to him.

People climb mountains because they are big challenges and when they reach the top they will feel they, too, have grown in stature. Jim Rohn, the great American self-help guru, tells us to make a million pounds not so much for the money but for what making a million will make of us.

In the Contender reality show where sixteen middleweight boxers are pitted against each other, the prize is a final fight at Caesar’s Palace in Nevada. The winner will be given a million dollars and the glory of beating their competitors.

Some of the boxers used strategy to try to win the prize. They wanted to face the weaker boxers so that they would stay in the competition and would suffer fewer injuries. They were regarded as cowards by some of the others who proudly or recklessly chose to face the toughest boxers on their route to the top.

In the week when only 8 boxers were left, Joey Gilbert was thinking about fighting Anthony Bonsante who had an injured hamstring and was therefore vulnerable.

Jesse Brinkley was disgusted with his attitude:

“Do you want everything given to you?”

Jesse even went so far as to accuse Joey of cowardice. But then he had managed to accuse nearly everybody except himself of cowardice! Was this his strategy?

In fact, Jesse had been planning on fighting Bonsante himself. He decided to win the weekly challenge so that he could decide who would be in the next fight.

Jesse won the challenge and decided to make Joey earn his way by fighting Peter Manfredo Junior – one of the best fighters. This would leave the way open for Jesse to fight his preferred opponent – the injured Bonsante!

His corner man told Joey: “Everything you need to win is inside you. You are a winner. Don’t get into ‘He can do this or I can do that.’ When all the chips are against you that’s when you fight the best.”

Peter Manfredo’s dad showed up to be in his corner. Peter commented: “He’ll inspire me.”

Joey accepted his lot and changed his attitude:

“I came here for a challenge and I got it. Jesse’s right It’s better to attempt great things and fall short than it is to conquer something you know that you can already beat and this is one of those times. I know I have a hill to climb. I’m the underdog but I know I can pull it out with my heart if I dig deep.”

Peter gave his thoughts before the fight:

“I’m anxious to get in there especially with my father being here. I’ve never lost in front of him yet and I don’t want to start now. I know I’m one of the best fighters here and I guess I’m just going to go for it.”

Peter won the first round with some heavy punches. Joey told his corner: “My rib is broken”. Peter won the second round. Joey again commented: “My rib is gone.”

In round three, Joey forgot about his rib and put up a real fight. Before the fourth round, his corner man urged him on: “Let’s go baby! Let’s go baby!” Joey won round four and his corner man continued to motivate:

“This is the last round for the rest of your life, son!”

His words were prophetic as Joey was accidentally head butted by Peter in round five. His head would probably need about forty stitches and the fight was stopped so that Joey could go off for treatment.

Peter won by split decision. He was quietly elated:

“Tonight was a great night. My heart goes out to Joey and his family. Joey is an awesome kid. He has a heart of gold. He kept coming. He wanted to win. I give him all the credit in the world. I’ve won two fights – I’ve got one more to go. I won’t celebrate till I go to Caesar’s.

Joey was upset but not too despondent:

“I fought for five rounds with one of the best in the world, Peter Manfredo Junior. I might even have been able to beat him had I finished that fifth round. Part of me always knew that I was capable of competing at this level but part of me doubted it because I had always been told that I was a college boxer and couldn’t compete with pro boxers. But I learned that I can do it.”

Joey continued his extensive reflections on the fight:

“A champion’s heart is made of gold and it means you don’t quit and it means that you fight on and I tried to show the heart of a champion and I never quit and I never gave up because I could look right and see my family and see my father. I didn’t want to let them down. My grand father used to say that your family is the most important thing you have in your life and I can definitely say that’s true for me. The tournament, the Contender, for me was one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever put myself through. It’s done and it’s one of the best times in my life. It’s something I’ll never forget as long as I live.”

Sugar Ray Leonard was impressed by Joey’s performance: “If you look up the word ‘heart’ in the dictionary you’ll probably see Joey Gilbert’s photo!”

Boxing is all about motivation and the readiness to face challenges. It is about having the heart to persist in the face of mind numbing pain. Boxers have much to teach the rest of us.
